Description: I've known Jerry for, how long, ten years maybe? A long time. I remember going on tour with him and Tyrone Olson back in the day. We both found T-bone so intolerably annoying that Jerry and I became instant BFFs. We were also both into shooting photos--he was working on his book Demo Chix and I was really into shooting the elusive T-Bone tre-flip. In any case, we've been bros ever since (we have matching tattoos to prove it!). For this episode Jerry gave me a six-hour VHS tape of really incriminating material from when he first started skating. Stuff like self-cheering, self-filming, sketchy mongo-ish pushing, weird trick selection, weird outfits, chain wallets, etc.--all stuff that people on the Slap message boards will basically crucify you for. I thought "There is no way Jerry is going to let me put this out." So I sent him a quicktime of the show, just to see if it would even fly at all, and he was like, "Who cares, I don't care what anyone thinks, I was just a kid." I thought that was pretty zen of him. Anyway.... Not to get all momish, but look how much this bud has blossomed and grown.

Description: For more of this video, visit www.VBS.tv The first time I heard anything about people in the sewers in Colombia was back at the beginning of the 90s when ABC Primetime Live did a piece about all the children living down there. It became a fairly big humanitarian story in the media for a while, with other networks in America and Europe sending in crews to cover it and folks setting up charities abroad. And rightfully so—the situation at the time was a complete fucking nightmare. The sewers were filled with packs of kids living waist-deep in shit and taking in copious amounts of glue and crack in order to cope. This was at the height of Colombia's "Dirty War", and the whole reason the street kids had gone down into the sewers in the first place was to get away from the violence. But then the paramilitary death squads who had chased them off the street started to come into the pipes and shoot them or douse them in gasoline or rape them. Ten-year-old girls were giving birth and trying to raise babies in the middle of sewage (the early onset of puberty having been brought on by the constant molestation by adults and older kids as well as the general stress on their bodies). It was about as fucked as things get.

In Honduras, just before the coast of a small Caribbean island, the continental shelf falls 6000ft down into the almost endless depths of the ocean. Somewhere there outside, the harmless plankton eater follows the energy-saving currents of the Caribbean Sea. Here, its journey also leads past Utila. Therefore, an own subculture has developed on the small inconspicuous island. But why of all places on the earth exactly there? What do we know about the largest fish in the world? What do scientists think? What are the inhabitants' views - what did visitors observe? Where does the fascination of whale sharks come from? And what is Utila - an island in paradise? - And anyway, why have I still not seen a whale shark? Did you ever see one? These questions and much more being answered by the protagonists themselves.... About the film: What do we want to trigger off with the viewer? The film is not only about impressing the viewers by showing marvellous pictures and fantastic music. What is more, viewers of the film will develop in particular a feeling and an understanding for the surrounding field of the island, for the inhabitants of Utila and for the whale shark by means of using unconventional methods. At best, the spectators become motivated not only to watch the documentation but also to have a good, critical look at the topic. It is our main objective to arouse the viewers' curiosity to that extent. Therefore, the documentation works without a classical narrator. Instead, the story is told by creating an interchange of interviews and film material. Currently, it is very likely for documentations to be well received, as more and more people are interested in acquiring more knowledge on films and are longing to fall into a new world. The sea is not a new world, but it is another, where humans are only guests.
